Some days ago an article, in the Spanish newspaper El País<\/em>, was published about the Spanish teacher. I liked the way our career was viewed, especially as they made it clear that “it was not enough to be a native speaker to teach classes but training and experience was necessary.”<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I couldn’t agree more because besides being a teacher, I’m a language student and I value my time and money. When I sign up for a course, I like to know that I’m in good hands. It gives me confidence to see that the school has a website with photos of classes and its facilities, that it’s a centre with a long history and track record and it’s reliable and successful. And above all, what I like to know is that its teachers are qualified and well-trained, have experience and have chosen teaching foreign languages as a career.<\/span><\/p>\n

In my classes I often ask my students to think of a teacher that they remember well and to describe them.  These are some of their answers: “He knew a lot”, “She explained well”, “He was kind and worried about us”, “Her classes were fun and we learned a lot” “He surprised us with new activities” etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

So a teacher should be able to be all that.<\/span><\/p>\n

A good teacher:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

–Knows<\/strong> what to teach and how: knows the Spanish language and has methodology and teaching ability.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Knows<\/strong> to assess the needs of the students and chooses the best syllabus for their level.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Knows<\/strong> how to present and explain grammar, vocabulary, social and cultural aspects of the language for students to use it.<\/span><\/p>\n

–Knows <\/strong>how to help you assess your needs and guides you to improve yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n

–Knows <\/strong>how to grade their language and choose activities that are effective so you can learn at a steady comfortable pace.<\/span><\/p>\n

–Knows<\/strong> how to correct your mistakes and how you can learn from them.<\/span><\/p>\n

–Knows <\/strong>that studying a language is a complex process that goes through various stages, so they know how to encourage you to gain confidence in yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n

–Knows<\/strong> that motivation is the key to learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

So you know:<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you are a student, study Spanish with qualified teachers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you want to be a Spanish teacher, get professional training to acquire the knowledge and skills required.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Estudia español con un profesor cualificado.<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Hace unos días se publicó un artículo en el periódico El país<\/em><\/a> sobre el profesor de español. Me gustó el tratamiento que se le daba a nuestra profesión, sobre todo, porque se dejaba claro que “no basta con ser nativo para dar clase, se necesita formación y experiencia”.<\/span><\/p>\n

No puedo estar más de acuerdo, además de profesora, soy estudiante de lenguas, valoro mi tiempo y mi dinero y cuando contrato un curso me gusta saber que estoy en buenas manos. Me da confianza comprobar que la escuela tiene una página web con fotos de sus clases, de sus instalaciones, de sus profesores; que es un centro con una historia y una trayectoria que demuestra seriedad y éxito. Y sobre todo, lo que más me gusta es leer que sus profesores son docentes cualificados, experimentados y que han elegido la enseñanza de lenguas como profesión.<\/span><\/p>\n

En mis clases pido muchas veces a mis estudiantes que piensen en un profesor que recuerden especialmente y que describan por qué. Estas son algunas de sus respuestas: “Sabía mucho”, “Explicaba muy bien”, “Era muy amable y se preocupaba por nosotros”, “Sus clases eran divertidas y aprendíamos mucho”, “Cada día nos sorprendía con nuevas actividades “…<\/span><\/p>\n

Y es que un profesor debe ser capaz de hacer todo eso.<\/span><\/p>\n

Un buen profesor:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

–sabe <\/strong>qué tiene que enseñar y cómo: conoce la lengua española y tiene metodología y pedagogía.<\/span><\/p>\n

– sabe<\/strong> detectar tus necesidades y elegir los contenidos más adecuados para tu nivel.<\/span><\/p>\n

-sabe<\/strong> el tipo de explicaciones que debe darte sobre la gramática, el vocabulario, los usos sociales y culturales de la lengua para que puedas usarla.<\/span><\/p>\n

–sabe<\/strong> cómo ayudarte a detectar tus necesidades y guiarte a que conozcas cómo puedes mejorar.<\/span><\/p>\n

-sabe<\/strong> adecuar su forma de hablar y elegir las actividades más eficaces para que puedas aprender de una forma segura y pautada.<\/span><\/p>\n

–sabe<\/strong> cómo corregir tus errores y ayudarte a aprender de ellos.<\/span><\/p>\n

–sabe<\/strong> que aprender una lengua es una tarea compleja que pasa por varias fases, por lo que sabe cómo animarte y ayudarte a ganar confianza y seguridad.<\/span><\/p>\n

–sabe<\/strong> que la motivación es la clave del aprendizaje.<\/span><\/p>\n

Así es que ya sabes<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n

si eres estudiante, aprende español con profesores cualificados<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

si quieres ser profesor de español, fórmate para adquirir todos esos conocimientos y habilidades.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
